DLP HDTV, Best Buy Drivers Agree on Friendly Wager at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 24, 2007) – NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers Tony Raines and Jeff Green have agreed to a friendly wager regarding the outcome of Saturday night’s Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

While no cash will change hands, the driver that loses the bet will have to do what most competitors consider the unthinkable – wear another race team’s colors at the track.

If Raines’ No. 96 DLP HDTV Chevrolet finishes better than Green’s No. 66 Samsung HDTV/Best Buy Chevrolet, Green has agreed to wear a No. 96 DLP HDTV racing hat next weekend at California Speedway.  In return, if Green posts the better finish, Raines will sport a No. 66 Best Buy racing hat for the Labor Day weekend race.

“I didn’t hesitate when I was asked,” Raines said.  “I believe in my DLP HDTV team, and have no doubt they’re up for the challenge.  I feel like we can take home bragging rights over the (No.) 66 team this weekend.  If not, I’ll be proud to wear the Best Buy hat and hopefully get some race fans to pick up their DLP HDTV at Best Buy.”

“It’s just something fun to do,” said Green of the proposal.  “Tony’s DLP car has my sponsor, Best Buy, on the quarterpanels for the next two races, and our associate sponsor, Samsung HDTV, is one of the top manufacturers of DLP TVs.  We thought it would be a little different to see which DLP/Best Buy car can come out on top this weekend.  It’ll be our race-within-a-race.”

The Raines/Green challenge gets underway with the drop of the green flag for the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 25.  Race coverage begins at 7 p.m. EDT, live and in high-definition on ESPN, with PRN Radio affiliates also broadcasting the race.
